One Simple Thing: Change Your Life Through Breath

Be Here Now.  Breathe.  Connect to your Source.

Have you heard this before?

I certainly had!  Yet sometimes approaching an old topic from a new direction makes all the difference.

In 2009, I went on retreat to the Nurturing Nest, which was amazing.  There Ramesh Gune offered me new words for the expereince of connection.  Breathe in through the nose, “SO”; breathe out through the mouth, “HUM.”  “Do you know what that is?” he asked, smiling.  “It means, ‘I AM THAT”, he said, eyes twinkling and finger pointing up towards the sky.

I played with that phrase, floating in the hot mineral pool at Nurturing Nest as the dawn broke over the mountains.

A few weeks later, I laughed at the synchronicity and magic of our experiences.  I met a woman, a yoga teacher I only know as Donna — I never did catch her last name. She remains one of the most fully embodied, present people I have ever had the pleaseure of being around.  And she related that she worked with prison inmates, and had seen lives changed though this simple practice.  Breathe in through the nose, “SO.”  Breathe out through the mouth, “HUM.”  SO HUM, I am that.

To American ears there is such a playfulness is the sounds themselves, so hum, like ho hum, but with reverence. Whatever comes is calm, is fine, but with that sense of connection to the miraculous, rather than a sense of boredom!

So Hum.  You are that.  Try carrying that thought with you today!
