My Awesome Life – A “Long” Workday Fueled By Pleasure and Raw Living Foods!

It’s not always easy balancing work, family, and self care!

In Montana, for me, it all becomes easier in Spring, because my typical day looks something like this:

6am — get up, check the day’s coaching schedule, emails, and work tasks; make sure my priority list from the night before is still spot-on.  Get ready for the day!

7am — wake up the kids, make breakfast (today, a smoothie made in the vitamix: 1 bunch spinach, 1 ripe mango, 4 cups water, 1 scoop green powder (right now I am using Sunwarrior Ormus Supergreens).  Make lunches; love my family (mornings are so fun!); try to avoid the time warp trap between leaving the kitchen on-time and getting in the car late!

9am — drive kids to school…drive myself and dog to trailhead!

The Spring sun was shining, and just before I turned around, I came across a heart in the path another traveler had made… how wonderful a metaphor is that?  Such unexpected pleasures around every corner!

11am-4 pm  settled into work, bright and energized… so much so that lunch was just a super quick apple and lots (too many!) of delicious raw cashews.

4pm-6m– pick up kids and their friends and end the day with another hike — great family time and my chance to decompress and transition.  Impossible not to be happy with a thumping heart and views like this:

Never mind that my kids can RUN up the mountain!

Dinner was a huge salad with a yummy herbs-de-provence vinegrette (see recipes) and 3 scoops of Matt Amsden’s Mock Tuna Salad.  By the way, I’ve mentioned Matt before…his RAWVOLUTION (go buy it!) is my absolute favorite Transitional Raw Food recipe book.  I have a huge collection, and some feature very simple recipes that are great for learning the basics, but frankly don’t always taste awesome enough for me.  Then there are some well known ones, like Juliano’s RAW the UNcookbook, and Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngalis’ RAW FOOD Real World, that have incredible inspiring food, but which I generally find too intimidating or time consuming to make.  If you’re lucky enough to live near their LA area restuarants, go for me, ok?!  Matt Amsden strikes the perfect balance — delicious food that meets my desire for “heavy” foods that mimic some of what we used to eat….but made in quick, do-able recipes.  He uses ingredients that aren’t always considred strictly RAW, such as lots of Namu Shoyu (a salty  unpastuerized soy sauce).

My evening is for my family, and then, if I’m lucky, I might get a few more hours of work in after the kids are asleep.

This is a pretty perfect day for me.  It wasn’t always like this, but I am absolutely delighted by how often it’s like this NOW.

How about you?  Are you living the life you imagine?  Are you getting closer? Are you enjoying the ride?? Do you make time for yourself every day? Are you as thrilled as I am that spring is arriving?!?

Let me know your thoughts…I know most of us have heard these ideas before…but LIFE IS SO MUCH FUN when you’re actually living them!

Life is good in my part of the world too! Spring is over here, but my garden is in, the community butterfly garden is in and is awesome. At the dedication this past Saturday, I made your recipe for Cauliflower “couscous” to share. It is delicious and a big hit with everyone! A good and different dish for a large group ‘pot luck’ where there is usually nothing brought that is green or crunchy.
