Quick Green Juice

Realize Fresh Green Juice cures the common cold, the blues, and the aches :), but don’t have a juicer?

Did you know you can make juice with just a high-powered blender and a nut milk bag (easier) or fine mesh strainer (harder)?

Here’s a very basic recipe for green juice – I start my mornings off with this baby!  For a sweeter drink, use a gala or other sweet apple.

Kale-Apple-Celery-Lemon Green Juice

good for what ails you3 stalks celery

3-4 leaves Kale

1/4 lemon (optional), skin cut off

1 granny smith apple

enough pure water to blend

To Make:

Mix all ingredients in your blender.

If you don’t have a vitamix or similar high-powered blender, you will need to cut your pieces much smaller, add more water, and process longer.  This is less desirable because the more air you blend into the juice, the more you increase oxidation.  This is why a good slow juicer makes higher quality juice.  The best juicers make a juice which retains it’s enzyme potential for up to 24 hours.

Juice made with a blender and nut milk bag begins to oxidize more quickly and should be consumed within several hours.

After blending, hold a nut milk bag over a large bowl (one with a spout is really helpful) and pour the blended mixture into the milk bag.  Tie off the top and massage as if kneading dough: if you squeeze it all out the bottom it will go a little faster but you will spring a leak after just a few uses!

Pour your life-giving juice into a mason jar or shaker cup.  You can use a spoon to take off any extra foam if you don’t like it.
