Labyrinth: A symbol of the spiritual path.

While co-facilitating the workshop Success For Healers (presented by Success Without Sacrifice) last weekend, I came across this definition of a Labyrinth: “An unbroken path without tricks or dead ends.” What a lovely definition of the journey towards our most authentic and whole Self; towards the living expression of Spirit through our own heart and heart-led actions.

On such a journey you become more of who you already are, you shine brighter, and you serve more people; all while exploring new and exciting edges.

At least that’s been my experience!

What Happened

You may notice that as The Soul Spark Coach I have not been blogging or writing new recipes! What’s up with that? In the simplest sense, I got too busy!

Busy growing and creating, learning and beginning to nurture a long-held-dream of working with my beloved husband, Tim Lowry. And it’s been very powerful!

I’m working full time as the Money Goddess (how can you not LOVE that?!?) at Success Without Sacrifice, the business my husband founded to help leaders of all kinds integrate their actions with their Spiritual Path. Tim has a gift for creating masterful insight, and a passion for using that insight to power action that is aligned, effective, and creative.

And should that path include starting, branding, expanding, or marketing a business that makes you fabulous money, I’d love to share my expertise with you! Together our talents have combined to create something bigger than either of us alone, something bigger than I could have imagined — and THAT was exactly what I set out to do when I first visioned The Soul Spark Coach.

So I’m thrilled with the evolution of soul to success…

How It Started

But wait, let me back up a bit….

My own healing journey, and my background in healing through food, led me to Raw Food.

The up-leveling and clarity of Spirit I experienced through raw food allowed me to expand past anything I had previously imagined for myself. Having been an entrepreneur my whole life, and seeing a new way to combine my healing and coaching skills, I started The Soul Spark Coach. As a Certified Raw Food Coach, I had an absolutely amazing, exciting, trial-by-fire introduction to the fast-paced world of on-line entrepreneurship. That success brought me many exciting opportunities.

But one opportunity in particular called to me, daring me to shout again the great, cosmic, YES! and strap in for the ride. :)

You Get What You Ask For, And I Asked For More….

It started so innocently: “Honey, I have this idea…will you help me take my business online?”

Have you ever been joyfully blindsided by your own YES? I found the more I was able to say that clear powerful YES!, the more the universe conspired to speed my evolution and growth past all the little safety barriers and comfort zones I thought to hold so tightly to.

A bit of part-time behind-the-scenes business help has grown into a full-time dream-come-true: creating a business from the ground up with my husband, Master Healer Tim Lowry, that has a world-wide reach and a deep sense of service.

Continually stepping up into the larger space has proven challenging, exhilarating, and profound. It’s a new moon in the ebb and flow of my path, and the only thing I am completely certain of is that there will be more growth and change ahead.

What Now?

I am closing down The Soul Spark Coach — though I am leaving all the great recipes and heartfelt blogs as a resource, a wish for your happiness and health, and a reminder that wherever my path takes me I remain committed to this truth:

There is a path to healing — to a life of joyful meaning and service — for everyone.

Come visit me in my newest incarnation, where I get to use my genius in concrete ways that help people thrive AND make better money (and I am still very Soul Sparky and quite cheeky too)!

I want to thank each and every one of you — you have no idea how much the support of every visitor, friend, and client has played a part in what I have been able to do. Wherever your path takes you, remember — Dream Big!

P.S. Yes, the focus is different, but I get to do MORE of what I love. Check out what people are saying about my business/entrepreneurial Money Goddess coaching here.

And yet, it’s so simple. Two main ingredients, a bit of vanilla and some water…20 minutes and you’re done.

Allison’s recipe serves 3 people with enough left over for chef prerogative of licking out the bowl!

***Check out more of Alison’s Raw Food Recipes (and coaching programs) at www.pathlesstrodden.com ***

Ingredients:

200g / 7oz / 1 1/2 cups cashew nuts

5 ripe plums, choose the large variety with deep red skin

1 pod of fresh vanilla

c. 100ml of water

Equipment:

Mini processor

Serves:

3

Directions:

Make the parts:

Empty the cashews into the mini processor

Split the vanilla pod lengthways using a sharp knife. Open the pod up and peel the sides back to reveal the seeds. Using the knife or a teaspoon scrape the black vanilla seeds into the processor with the cashews.

Stone and peel one plum, chop it up into small pieces and add to the other ingredients in the mini processor.

Add 100 ml of water and blend the mixture well, until it’s a smooth paste. Add a little more water if necessary to make the cream a consistency you like. Remember that it will thicken slightly when left to stand.

Remove the cream from the processor to a bowl. Clean the processor.

Stone and chop a further 2 plums into small pieces (I leave the skin on these). Put into the processor and blend until you have a smooth sauce. You may need to stop and push the fruit down onto the blades several times.

Stone and chop the remaining 2 plums into small pieces.

Assemble:

Place half of the chopped plums into the bottom of 3 attractive serving glasses.

Top with about a third of the plum sauce.

Next, add a layer consisting of about half of the cashew cream, carefully smoothing it out to meet the edge of the serving glasses.

Start another layer: Place the rest of the chopped plums on top of the cashew cream, and top with another third of the plum sauce.

Spoon the remaining cashew cream on top of the plums; to make it look like a traditional cream fool, I like to leave it in dollop formation!

Drizzle the remainder of the plum sauce over the top of the cashew cream.

I promised to share with you what I actually do to keep my back pain and arthritis in check — here it is!

Bonus: The Quick List of What Doesn’t Work (Or, How to Create Pain in Your Life!)

Consider yourself a victim. Figure out who to blame.

Focus on what you can’t do.

Eat mostly processed, packaged foods.

If you have a personal “problem” food (mine is dairy), eat a LOT of that food.

Live on caffeine and deadlines.

Willfully push through all challenges.

Pursue your fitness/sport/hobby at all costs — no pain no gain.

Ignore your pain, you’re tough.

Alternatively, spend all day at a computer/desk and all night in front of the TV.

Seek ways to stop feeling your pain rather than ways to understand it.

Now For The Good Stuff: The Pain Solutions That Work For Me

Mindset

Pain, like emotion, can act as a compass. It can tell you important information. It can guide your choices. But to use this compass, you can’t keep trying to throw it away. You have to study it — in a sense welcome it. You have to become an expert in your own pain — what changes it, how does it flow, what is underneath it.

Pain brought to light for me the part of myself that was pretty happy giving up.

It shed light on an undeveloped aspect of my character — that part of me that liked the idea of being cared for.

I had to examine the ways I was claiming my pain. Having a chronic pain, a dis-ease with a Name, can become an identity that we actually promote. ”I have such-and-such.” It can become a way that we connect to others. For me, I began to see how, if I continued on the path I was on, my illness could become the perfect shield for my ego — a ready-made excuse for anything I never accomplished.

The first step in breaking out of my pain was in some ways the hardest. It was the exploration of this victim, small-sighted mindset as it manifested in my life, and the very deep decision that I had a choice. I chose a bigger, unknown path. Like the bird, who, sensing the dawn, begins to sing in the dark, I jumped into the faith of a bigger, more beautiful, more fulfilling, more adventures ME.

Emotional

I’m a big believer in the power of a positive attitude combined with a burning desire see more deeply. It doesn’t work well to be positive in the sense of being deeply in denial.

Cultivate gratitute.

Cultivate support – CREATE an environment that nurtures and supports you emotinally, so that you can do the work you are here to do from a feeling, a base, of safety and support.

Nutrition

Learn about the acid/alkaline balance and eat to keep yourself mildly alkaline. If you have an inflammatory condition of any kind, I believe this is the root cause and the single most effective thing you can address for powerful healing.

I enjoy soda, coffee, and cheese. And I made myself very sick eating much too much of them. Today, these very acidic foods are a very small part of my diet. If you are not a “cold turkey” kind of person, start by upgrading your choices.

sparkling water with lemon for soda

green tea or ONE coffee for a Starbucks habit

raw goat cheese for a pound-of-cheddar-a-day habit (yes, I used to eat that)

Using specific foods as “medicine.” Foods come complete in ways that modern medicine doens’t even begin to approach. I teach my clients how to transform from eating patterns that are making them sick, to eating patterns that can make them well. For example, I use green juices and smoothies to alkalize my system and flood it with the nutrients it craves. I use Rehmannia Root to balance my physiologic, and lifestyle induced, tendency towards adrenal stress. I specialize in helping you to discover what works for you.

Physical

After a lot of trial and error, heres the short list:

Lots of moderate physical activity. I’ll walk and ski all day, but it’s true that I am no longer doing a lot of pylometrics, running, or Olympic weight lifting.

Bikram Yoga done at MY pace. I do find the heat and the stretching very helpful, BUT I think it’s very easy for anyone not deeply in touch with their bodies to get caught up in the “atmosphere” of Bikram and do more harm than good.

Natural Hot Springs. I’m lucky enough to live close to several, and they are one of my great pleasures!

Chi Machine — if you do a google search you’ll get the idea. I honestly am pretty sceptical about the science here… yet despite my skepticism I notice that regular use improves my mobility and reduces any pain flare-up quickly. I no longer use this regularly, but I do use it if I overdo the gardening, and whenever I am cleansing/juicefeasting.

The right physical therapist. It took me three tries to find a person I love — she was able to teach me specific exercises I use whenever I get my left hip out of alignment, a very painful experience which, if ignored, leads to a cascade of compensation that increases pain throughout my body.

Take Control

Chronic inflammation is often strongly related to lifestyle and belief systems. If you are being told by your doctors that the exact cause of your condition is not known, consider looking deeper.

If the treatment options you are being offered involve “carpet bombing” your immune system because it has the temerity to be overburdened trying to clean up after you, or to “hide” your pain behind a lifetime of drugs, PLEASE consider looking further.

If you know in your heart there is a message for you in your condition, be like the bird. Have the faith to start singing while it’s still dark. The dawn is amazing.

The fundamental, necessary attitude is to insist on more than the masking of symptoms.

What Does Pain Mean?

Pain comes in many forms and teaches us many things. Even moderate, chronic pain can cause persistent depression and worry. What is your response to pain? Do you take it seriously? Do you reach for the strongest pill-form relief you can access? Do you ignore it? Do you accept it as “part of getting old”?

I’ve had a lot of interest lately from people who want to know what I personally do to stay symptom-free with aggressive spondyloarthritis and sacroiliitis — conditions that are often excruciating for people.

You Can Get Relief That Lasts

I have been pain-free for about 3 years as I write this. I do get twinges, and I respond to them quickly. I’ve learned what works for me.

I believe that what will work for you is out there. All too often, we are using medication to try to dodge the energetic, emotional, and lifestyle-change work our symptoms are calling our attention to.

Are You Trying to Heal, Or Are You Trying Not To Feel?

We would not go to our doctor and say, “I am cutting off a toe every morning. It hurts, and I’d like pain medication so I don’t feel that pain. I plan to start on my fingers when I’m done with my toes, but I don’t want it to hurt.”

Our kind doctor might suggest we stop doing what is injuring us.

We certainly would not say, “No, I don’t want to stop causing myself pain, I want YOU to give me something so I don’t FEEL the pain.”

And yet, many of us do a version of this every day.

Treat The Cause…

We don’t want to cut out processed grains or sugar, but we want weight-loss pills, Alli, diet shots, appetite suppressants, and short-term fads.

We don’t want to find new ways to stay active every day that work for our body, look at how dairy affects us, or remove the acidifying foods that lead to inflammation. But, we are willing to take increasing doses of NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Tylenol, Alleve, and Motrin), every day of our life, to cope with joint, back and arthritis pain.

So many of us accept increasing levels of pain, limitation, and isolation rather than make the challenging, meaningful changes in our internal and external environment that would alter our path.

I understand, I’ve been there.

…And You Find The Gift

Living beings get sick, we die. Seemingly horrible things happen to wonderful people.

However, in my own life, and in, without exception, every single case I have been privledged to witness, we are always responsible for how we respond. We create the EXPERIENCE of our reality to a far greater degree than most people realize. This isn’t depressing, it’s magnificent!

What if everything, absolutely everything, that happens to you, contains a gift? What if everything is an opportunity to have exactly the guidance, support, healing and love you are looking for?

What if what you long for most is not behind some hidden, locked door… but through the always-open door of every moment? What if we stop trying “not to feel,” and start looking instead to understand the message — the gift — inside our pain?

Is It Real?

I’ve read and been influenced by some spiritual teachers who claim to know that this is, in fact, Spiritual Law… that this version of things is actually Truth with a capital T. Is this Universal Truth, the way things really work?

I have to share with you that I have no idea. I wouldn’t even know where to begin, nor do I see how I personally could know such things.

Here’s what I do know. Just acting as if absolutely everything that comes to you has a gift, and a responsibility for you to take up the challenge… acting this way invites miracles into your life.

Profound physical healing.
Unbeleivable acts of synchronicity and grace.
Sudden openings of opportunity you never imagined.
Sudden recognition, at last, of opportunities or support that have been there all along.
Your own Financial “Trust-fund” (do you trust in your essential security? What would change for you if you did?)
The people you need to find your next step appearing easily before you.

Can you imagine that if your life was a constant string of such miracles and synchronicities, your faith in something wonderful and bigger than yourself might grow powerfully strong rather naturally?

More Importantly: Does It Work?

I do know that, for me, this is a wonderful, magical, happy way to live.

I do know that it’s possible for everyone. You can learn and practice the attitudes, actions, and processes that take you from skipping stones along the surface of your symptoms, to looking more deeply for causes and sources and gifts.

Causes and Sources and Gifts, oh my! I want to know where you are with this.

What pain in your life, has, upon reflection, brought you a gift you treasure?

Where in your life currently could you look deeper?

If you were completely safe, loved, supported, energized, and pain-free, what would you attempt?

What is one thing you could shift today to step into that energy?

Coming next: I’ll share with you the specific actions I take to stay pain-free, as well as share some of the things that are sure to throw me back into a disease-symptomology.

Here’s an awesome anytime energizer to get you feeling good again. And you can whip it up in under 5 minutes!

In high speed blender, mix:

¼ cup frpzen rasberries
1 banana
2 cups frozen mango
2 tsp of your favorite green powder (I like Sun is Shining)
4 tbsp hemp protein powder (I like Living Harvest Original flavor)
1 head romaine lettuce
½ bunch Italian (flat leaf) parsley
pinch sea salt

Real unprocessed food varies, so if necessary, add a small amuont of sweetner (such as honey or agave) — but make sure to taste first — you almost never need it! Enjoy this naturally sweet and zippy, powerfully green, alkalizing treat.

Makes 4 servings.

When you juice a lot you will often wonder what to do with all the pulp. Throw it away in a garbage bag? Throw it out on your compost? Feed it to the pets? Crackers are a wonderful, tasteful, economic solution and will save you a lot of money. Just think of what one small pack is costing and you will know how much.

Juice all day long and make a tray in the early evening for a nice and warm breakfast the next morning. This makes a lovely recipe for early, dark winter mornings when you are aching for some warm comfort while the house is warming up.

The principle is very easy and you can add whatever you like. As each juice and the variety of juices you make throughout the day is different, each tray of these crackers will have its surprising tastes. A good timing to make a new batter is around 5 or 6 pm or when you stop juicing. You will still have the time to flip your tray after the first drying period of 4 to 5 hours. Then you can go to bed with a smile. The dehydrator will do the rest overnight while you are having juicy dreams.

Deep Purple

TOOLS YOU NEED

A juicer

A dehydrator or oven

A large bowl

A wooden spoon or a spatula

INGREDIENTS

The pulp of your daily juices

1-2 C grind flax seeds

1 C grind nuts to your choice

Herbs and seasonings which fit to the taste of the pulp

Sea salt to taste

Some pure water or original juice, depending on how much pulp you have

THE MAKING OF…

If you like your crackers with a “clean” color, don’t mix the pulp of the different juices you made but separate them

If you don’t mind mixing, stir the pulps until well mixed

Grind the nuts you like in your crackers and throw the flour in the bowl with the pulp

Add the herbs and seasonings you think will fit with the taste of the crackers, spicy, Mediterranean or sweet…

Taste, taste, taste and adjust until you say “Mmmm!

Grind your flax seeds and mix everything very well

Now add the water or juice you need to have an easy consistency to spread out on your tray

Spread the batter on a teflex sheet or parchment paper and make squares so you can break them easily when ready

Place the tray in your dehydrator

If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can use an oven on the lowest temperature, not higher than 118°F or 42°C . Leave the door a little bit open so the water can evaporate and your crackers will be crunchy

If you put your tray in around 5 or 6 pm, you can still flip it over after 4 to 5 hours

Let it dehydrate until the next morning and they will be perfect for breakfast

Try out what you like. This basic principle works for every pulp and you will have fun creating your own recipes. Enjoy your creations!

Are you in a service-based business and struggling to create the income you’d really like?

Have you planted your money ideas?

In my own life, each breakthrough in my personal evolution has lead to a breakthrough in how I want to serve.

It feels a bit like creating a beautiful container over time: long ago it was small and leaky and could barely hold me. As I create an ever stronger and more beautiful vessel, it has become solid, spacious and beautiful enough to hold and nurture many.

I have noticed this for my Soar program clients as well.

At some point, they are so strong as individuals that they begin to hear their deep calling to serve others. They want to create thriving business that serve their beautiful heart-felt missions.

But so many people struggle around creating an abundant income that allows them to grow, work reasonable hours, and feel secure. I noticed that the tools I was offering to help them worked well at higher incomes. For those just starting out, or those who had been in business for a while without creating the money they wanted, I was not getting the results I hold possible for my clients.

So I turned to Kendall SummerHawk, the Million Dollar Marketing Coach, to teach me her system for helping women entrepreneurs create authentic, abundant incomes no matter where they are starting from.

Sounds pretty good, right?

I know this isn’t information you want to wait to learn, so I’m going to share 3 tools you can use to evolve your money mindset right now.

1. Write out your beliefs about money.

Finish this sentence 10 times: Rich people are….

I am amazed at how many people — 9 out of 10! — hold negative beliefs around money. If you think rich people are spoiled, greedy, lazy, or lucky, you are programming yourself to avoid becoming rich yourself.

2. Create a place for your money to go.

Do you have a savings account? Do you pay yourself regularly? Do you have investments, or a plan for what you will invest in when the money flows in? Are you tracking your money?

Many people plan for their children’s future, shower them with attention, and spend time learning what is really going on for them. Yet some of these same people virtually ignore their money. They have no plan, they dread spending time balancing their checkbook, budgeting, or paying bills.

Treat your money as a relationship. Give it the positive attention it needs to thrive.

3. Ask yourself: What would a 6-figure business owner do?

Maybe you would like to take your business form a ” hobby” that makes only a few thousand a year to a thriving business that makes $100,000 or more each year. Begin right now by asking yourself, what would the owner of that business do?

You will be amazed at how quickly you gain clarity around practices you are tolerating that keep you from creating a 6-figure business.

I am currently in the process of adding Kendall’s brilliant system to help women entrepreneurs create real money in their business quickly, easily, and authentically, to my list of certifications.

What if the answer was up to you?

Turn on the news and the world is on fire, flooded, fighting, greedy, and broke.

Turn off the news and tell me about your life.

Will you tell me of the tragedy that has swept you up past all comprehension, breaking open your world and pulling you into a journey you never thought could happen to you?

Will you tell me of the soft secret pain in your heart, the hurt you look at but can’t seem to heal?

Will you tell me of the kindness of strangers and the deep connection to family, both original and your close created community?

Will you tell me you are lonely?

I love the work I get to do. I have been blessed in the last several months to have many heartfelt, revealing, and healing conversations with women of courage and depth, pain and hope, complexity and simple knowing.

And although I haven’t talked about it here before, in another part of my life I am an investor, an entrepreneur, an avid reader of The Economist, a deeply curious layman full of questions about the world economy.

So everyday I am engaged with the disasters and tragedies and innovations and hopes of the world, seen from a very casual, distant perspective.

And every day I am deeply and intimately engaged with the privately held hurts, passions, hopes and disappointments of my incredible clients.

This gives me a unique perspective, or lens, through which I see the world. More and more people are asking me these “Big” questions:

Where are we going?
Is the world safe?
Are people good?
Shall I hope?
Shall I act from that hope, or shall I defend and protect and prepare to grab my share?

Today I would like offer you my perspective, from many years of watching the world and having the great privledge of getting to see into the secret heart of so many people.

The choice is up to you.

Nothing is ever what it seems on the surface. Most of us strive to put forward a version of ourselves that glosses over where we hurt, what we dream, and how much courage and determination we have when faced with the choice to hope, to leap, to reach out.

Look around you. Can you tell whose knees, back, and teeth hurt? Can you tell which of the people in fancy houses have savings and which have debt? Can you tell who whispers secrets to their lover in the night and who likes awake, lonely?

What you assume from the surface is often wrong.

The power of my work is, at it’s most basic, the simple intention to hold my clients as resourceful. I see their magnificence, even when they can’t. And I know with absolute certainty that there is a path to Grace, to healing, to the softening of pain and the rekindling of hope, for absolutely everyone.

The story is always unfolding, and each moment we choose.

If you take the moment of time when the mother yells at her infuriatingly rude and flippant daughter, you miss the moments where she gets support for her own pain, learns new communication tools, and offers her daughter the Divine Gift of loving her anyway. You miss seeing the mother reach out, knowing full well her heart could get trampled, her vulnerability dissed rather than recognized. You miss the moment the daughter feels the change, and invokes her own courage to choose to reach back.

If you keep your attention on the war, you miss the peace. If you keep your attention on the struggle, you miss the solution.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

None of us are the first to ask these questions, to fear for the future, to resist the changes and the support available to us.

What I want to remind you is that the power is always in the place that is bigger than the paradox. The healing is always in the willingness to see our pain and choose heart-felt over heart-protected.

Whether you are a Libiyan risking death to stand for change. Whether you are an activist learning to release your stand against another and invoke instead your passion for the core value that guides you. Whether you are a single person in a single moment choosing whether to see your self as victimized or resourceful.

What do you need to invoke your courage? What do you need to move beyond either/or and into your own capacity to hold more, peacefully?

What do you need to move into the place where you claim your life?

What becomes possible for you if you choose your magnificence? What becomes possible for the world?

I LOVE experiencing transformation with a feeling a full support – I call it bumper bowling! I look at where I am, how slippery my shoes are, where I want to go, and how solid my skills and knowledge are in that area (if we’re talking about real bowling, abysmal. Really, really bad). Then I set up great support for myself!

Have you heard that saying, ‘something worth doing is worth doing poorly — for a while’? This is absolutely true — and a great coach can make that “poorly” stage go by with a lot more speed and grace than you may have thought possible.

It’s inherently motivating to achieve goals that are important to us, to feel that we are engaged in a process that has meaning, challenge, and visable rewards. And that cycle of achievement and motivation, challenge and rewards, becomes a powerful positive force.

Of course, staying stagnant, repeating self-doubts, and being bored or scared to move forward becomes a self-fulfilling negative cycle as well, a powerfully draining force.

The good news is, it’s NEVER too late to commit to yourself and your vision, and there’s ALWAYS more to learn and expand into (and this from someone who teaches people not to use absolutes, lol).

I am actually, right this moment, in various stages of training with not one but FOUR fabulous coaches. Each of them helps me to find the most efficient, gentle and rewarding path to the skills and mindsets I am looking to integrate.

Then it’s up to me to wrestle with my resistance, and take action.

I’m an expert at spirit-nourishing food and personal transformation. But I’m a newbie in the world of serious entrepreneurs. Good thing there’s always someone to learn from! I personally was particularly drawn to Kendall Summerhawk, whose divine feminine approach to business coaching has attracted a fascinating, soulful group of strong men and enchanting women.

Here’s a gem of wisdom I took away from my recent retreat with Kendall.

“It’s not about the money.” (Kendall, a former “career waitress,” runs her own multi-million dollar business!) “It’s about who I have to become to make the money.”

For me, this is what it’s all about. Not just our dreams, but whom we get to become in the process of reaching our dreams, and making new ones.

Whatever we turn away from in ourselves festers; if we don’t integrate it we seem programmed to put our inner wounding out into the world and often, onto others.

But the reverse is also true. When we turn inside, when we look at what the dreams that call us forward are pushing us to see, to integrate, we become capable of becoming what we long for. And a coach or mentor who already embodies an aspect of that new creation is a fantastic asset in guiding us smoothly and gently through this process.

So I am grateful to Kendall for pulling me forward, for walking the path before me so there’s light along the way. And the fact that she held her retreat at a posh resort in the canyons of Sedona, Arizona works for me, too!
